This Chobi rug was hand-knotted in Afghanistan, the kind of piece that takes months rather than days to finish. The pattern is a Chobi, the style Afghan weavers developed specifically to mimic the soft, aged colour of an antique Persian rug using new wool. Made from 100% wool with natural dyes, the colour has real depth to it — the kind you only get from pigment worked into the fibre, not sprayed on top.

At 195 x 153 cm (6.4 x 5.0 ft), it's a good middle-of-the-room size — large enough to matter, not so large it fights the furniture. Being hand-knotted, it should soften and settle in over the first few months, the way natural-fibre rugs are meant to.
