Woven by hand in Afghanistan, this Chobi rug is the sort of piece that gets better with a bit of foot traffic. The pattern is a Chobi-pattern piece, named for the muted, sun-faded palette the style deliberately imitates using vegetable dye rather than fading over decades. The wool takes natural dye unevenly on purpose, which is what gives a handmade rug that slight variation a machine-made one can't fake.

Sized 300 x 200 cm (9.8 x 6.6 ft), it's roomy enough to define a seating area without swallowing the rest of the floor. Being hand-knotted, it should soften and settle in over the first few months, the way natural-fibre rugs are meant to.
