Woven by hand in Afghanistan, this Chobi rug is the sort of piece that gets better with a bit of foot traffic. It's woven in the Chobi style — an open field, a restrained border, and a colour palette built to look decades old the day it's finished. The wool takes natural dye unevenly on purpose, which is what gives a handmade rug that slight variation a machine-made one can't fake.

This one comes in at 258 x 186 cm (8.5 x 6.1 ft), a size that works well as the main rug under a sofa or dining table. Being hand-knotted, it should soften and settle in over the first few months, the way natural-fibre rugs are meant to.
