Afghan war handmade small rug, doormat Chobi. Size: 80x61 cm

This is a hand-knotted Chobi rug, made the slow way — one knot at a time, on a floor loom, by a weaver in Afghanistan. It's a Chobi-pattern piece, named for the muted, sun-faded palette the style deliberately imitates using vegetable dye rather than fading over decades. The wool is undyed or naturally dyed where possible, so the colours are warm rather than flat, and the pile is dense enough to handle a busy household.

At a compact 80 x 61 cm (2.6 x 2.0 ft), it's an easy way to bring a handmade piece into an entryway or in front of a favourite chair without a big investment. It ships as the individual piece shown in these photos; once it sells, that particular rug is gone.
