Care & Cleaning
Caring for Your Handmade Rug
A handmade rug is an heirloom that can last for generations if treated well. Because we use natural wool and dyes, special care is required.
Daily Maintenance
-
Vacuuming: Use a vacuum with suction only. Turn off the "beater bar" (rotating brush) as it can damage the wool fibers and knots.
-
Rotation: Rotate your rug 180 degrees every 6 months to ensure even wear and prevent color fading from sunlight in one spot.
Spills & Stains
-
The Golden Rule: Blot, never rub. Rubbing pushes the liquid deeper into the wool.
-
Liquid Spills: Immediately blot with a clean, white towel. For water-based spills, use a tiny amount of lukewarm water if needed.
Deep Cleaning: Do not steam clean. We recommend professional cleaning by a specialist in handmade/oriental rugs once every 3-5 years
